The error limits (Accuracy and Coefficient of Variation) mentioned above are in accordance with the nominal capacity (or maximum volume) indicated on the instrument. These are obtained by using the instrument with distilled water at equilibrium, the ambient temperature of 20 °C while operating it smoothly and steadily. The error limits are in accordance with DIN EN ISO 8655-2.

Product FAQs

Microlit fixed volume micropipettes feature a universal tip and are compatible with all standard universal-fit tips. To achieve the best results, we recommend using Microlit ProTips.
The pipette is completely autoclavable at 121°C for 15-20 minutes at 15 psi.
All pipettes are calibrated according to ISO 8655 standards, ensuring the accuracy and precision of the liquid handling instruments. However, if you use your pipette on a regular basis, it is recommended that you re-calibrate it every 6-12 months.
Set the pipette to its nominal volume and dispense distilled water at least five times. Use an analytical or electronic balance to measure the liquid that has been dispensed. If the mean and CV of the readings fall within the acceptable ISO limits (see specs chart), the pipette is calibrated. If not, please follow the recalibration steps outlined in the instruction manual.
Yes, the pipette comes with a few sample tips only. Microlit ProTips are also available in racked, reload, and bulk packaging for additional purchases.
According to ISO 8655, you should have your pipette checked once a year. However, depending on the usage, the pipettes can be re-checked every 3 to 6 months.
Pre-rinsing the tip is a good practice, especially when working with liquids with high vapor pressure, and should be done whenever the tip or volume of the pipette changes. Pre-rinsing reduces the capillary effect in low volume pipettes and neutralizes the temperature difference between the tip and the sample in high volume pipettes. This increases the chances of an experiment's accuracy.
The Reverse Pipetting technique is ideal for pipetting any viscous or foaming liquid. To begin, set the desired volume and depress the plunger until the SECOND step. Immerse the tip in the liquid, then slowly release the plunger. To achieve the desired volume, only depress the plunger until you reach the FIRST step. The residual (or blow-out) volume is discarded. Please refer to the Instruction Manual/ Micropipette Product Guide for information on different pipetting techniques.
When working with detergents, foaming liquids, or viscous solutions, it is recommended that you use low retention tips. Because of its hydrophobicity and low adhesion, the tip's surface contact with the liquid is minimal. This reduces the loss of valuable reagents. Find Microlit ProTip™ low retention tips in the Tips section.
Each manufacturer's 5ml and 10ml tip cone design differs, so universal-fit tips will not work. Refer to the Tips section for compatible Microlit ProTip™ low retention tips.
