Pipette tips can also be a source of leachables, which are trace amounts of chemicals derived from materials or process equipment that can contaminate samples. Heavy metals, UV stabilizers, antioxidants, pigments, release agents, biocides, and surfactants are examples of potential leachables. Leachables are not present in high-quality tips made from 100 percent virgin polypropylene in a high-quality production plant.
It is recommended to change the pipette tip after every sample to avoid the risk of contamination with another sample.
